Register for Spring A.I.R. Academy

Spring A.I.R. Academy Registration is OPEN!  A.I.R. Academy is your 3rd-8th grade young artists’ FREE opportunity to try different art mediums to find their passion and begin their journey as a future Artist in Residence. A.I.R. Academy is held at the Arts @ Large Community Center – 1100 S 5th St, Milwaukee, WI 53204

 – Spring program dates are Saturdays, 9 am-1 pm, February 15th through March 15th, 2025.

– Parent Orientation will be held on February 8th from 10:30-11:30 am. Parent Orientation is mandatory for new participants.

– Closing Ceremony (See what your young artist has created!): March 15th from 12:00 -1:00 pm

We are proud to partner with Green Baked Goods as our new Cafe partner! Established in 2020, husband and wife team, Kevin and Angela founded Green Baked Goods using their combined 20+ years of experience in the service industry. With a natural talent for flavor & presentation, their large selection is baked daily onsite utilizing only fresh, local produce with new items added frequently.

From signature quiches and scones to cakes and panini sandwiches, there is something for everyone. Stop in and visit the cafe today!

Demar Walker Opening Celebration

Event Details

Arts @ Large presents, JUNIOR | A residency of being, becoming, and belonging, with DeMar Walker

This multimedia exhibition brings together photography, film, costume, and performance to explore the complexities of Black male identity. Artist-In-Residence, DeMar Walker, delves into his personal experiences beginning from childhood to create a story arc that celebrates his unique journey into adulthood.

Join us for the opening celebration on Gallery Night as Walker debuts the Milwaukee screening of the second installment of his dance short film series entitled the refrain. You don’t want to miss it!

Rooted: A Reflection on Finding & Making Home

Event Details

A Masterclass with DeMar Walker.  This lecture presentation will focus on DeMar Walker’s dance short film series. He will discuss its influences which include the cultural histories of Milwaukee and the Midwestern United States. The presentation will also highlight the films and their connections to the artistic and spiritual practices of the African Diaspora. Participants will be led through a creative writing exercise based on personal memory, cultural history, & artistic expression.
